Mexico will be without Arsenal striker Carlos Vela, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury suffered in the win over France. Javier Hernandez or Pablo Barrera are expected to deputise. Efrain Juarez is suspended for two yellow cards, with Paul Aguilar the favourite to replace him.
Uruguay are expected to start with the same 11 that beat South Africa 3-0. Nicolas Lodeiro is available again following a one-match suspension.
One booking from suspension: Torrado, Franco, Moreno, Rodriguez (Mexico); Victorino, Lugano (Uruguay) (BBC Sport)

Highlights of this match will be posted on this site as soon as the final whistle is blown. You can also see every World Cup goal that is scored the moment its up online and you can do that by CLICKING HERE.

Both Mexico and Uruguay have excelled themselves in South Africa and both have one foot in the knock out stages and progression for both can be secured for both by a draw however both countries will be keen to avoid potential top placed Group B Argentina.

We have of course been here before. In 1982 Germany and Austria shamefully conspired to draw to eliminate Algeria.

Highlights of previous World Cup group matches these two have taken part in.

France 0-2 Mexico

Prediction: Australia VS Ghana

While doutbless there will be lengthier previews closer to kickoff by internationally famed Australian tactician Kieran (solidarity, brother!), I want to flag three things prior to tonight’s do-or-die clash… Hope you’re listening, Pim!

1. Pace is a problem. Ghana have quick strikers and even without Essien a pacey advanced midfield. Our guys (particularly central defenders) looked slow on the ball and spent altogether too much time with their hands in the air appealing for offside. I think if we’re going to win this game we need to play our defenders deep and stop them getting in behind.

2. Err on the side of experience; but not TOO much on the side of experience. If Kewell and Bresc are fully fit, I think they should play, regardless of Bresciano’s rather slow performances in warm-up games and Kewell’s lack of match fitness. Those guys are class acts and without Cahill’s star quality we’re going to need some key players to step up to the plate and own the attacking part of the pitch. Kewell and Bresciano are those guys. I would not, however, play Vinny Grella – however experienced! Too many mistakes.

3. For the love of God, take some luck with you. I know that’s not really in our control, but I think tonight’s game could be quite close and I hope we catch the lucky breaks we need to catch!

A HUGH step up is required to produce a victory tonight, and despite our recent form, I think we can do it! Good luck, lads!

Netherlands vs Japan

THE BIG PICTURE
Japan made history against Cameroon but not just because it was their first World Cup win away from home soil. They also became the first team since 1966 to win a tournament match with a mere 3 shots at goal. Some would call this precise, most would call it very, very dull. They will not get the same luxury against Holland who began their tournament in just the right way, a comfortable win that didn’t get people talking about potential final opponents. The sort of position fancied teams love to be in, just going about their business with no fuss. They certainly didn’t reach their potential against Denmark, but they didn’t have to, nor should they need to in this match up. Japan will be on a high after their defeat of Cameroon but a Cameroon side playing their star striker on the right wing will be very different opposition to the formidable Dutch side, whose manager probably Bert van Marwijk probably has a better knowledge of the word ‘tactic’ than that of Cameroon’s Paul Le Guen.

WHAT’S AT STAKE
Whoever wins this will know they’ve all but secured progression to the next stage. Both victorious in the opening round, the pressure is somewhat off but that won’t stop the Japanese trying to keep it cagey. A draw for them here, against arguably one of the favourites for the tournament would give them a real chance of going through no matter what the outcome of the Cameroon Denmark match. They’ll be all too aware of the Dutch strength going forward and will try and contain the threat at every opportunity. This will most likely mean a training game ‘attack v defence’ clash and it’ll be entirely up to the Netherlands to set the tempo.
